Destination weddings do not need to be held in a different nation
According to the WeddingWire study, almost 1 in 4 couples consider their wedding to be a type of destination wedding, however only 13 percent stated it took place abroad. 43 percent of those who specified their wedding as a destination wedding got wed in a various state, not a different nation. And only one-third of couples hosting a destination wedding had to fly to get there.
Tropical destination weddings are in the minority

Couples pick a location that's unique to them

According to the WeddingWire study, 53 percent of couples selected their wedding destination since it's meaningful to them. And half of couples in the study selected to have a destination wedding due to the fact that it's an unique experience. Whether it's a preferred getaway, a beloved city, or a college town, millennial couples want every aspect of their wedding, from the area to the tiniest of details, to feel personal.
Couples hosting a destination wedding have a longer engagement
You might think a laid-back destination wedding can be thrown up at the last-minute, however these weddings require a fair bit more planning than a home town event. In fact, the typical couple hosting a destination wedding spends 17 months planning their wedding, instead of a 13-month planning timeline for couples hosting home town weddings This makes good sense when you think of it, as couples generally wish to offer their guests more see to book travel and accommodations than if they were hosting a home town wedding. And if couples want to visit their wedding place a few times to meet vendors, that will require additional time.
Destination weddings have way less guests than home town wedding events
It probably comes as not a surprise that destination weddings have fewer visitors than home town wedding events. If you're asking your visitors to take some time off of work, travel, and remain overnight, a few of your family members and good friends are bound to have conflicts. According to the WeddingWire survey, the typical couple hosts 94 guests at a destination wedding, as compared to 132 visitors at a home town wedding. And as all of us understand, more guests equal a more costly wedding, so this could be why destination weddings are typically thought about a more economical endeavor.
Destination weddings are held during the day
62 percent of couples host their destination wedding events in the daytime, as opposed to 54 percent of couples marrying in their home towns. And another interesting fact-- couples hosting a destination wedding are less likely to hold their event in a home of praise (only 12 percent do, as opposed to a quarter of those hosting a home town event), meaning they're most likely deciding for outdoor ceremony settings to fully embrace their wedding locale.
Couples hosting a destination wedding are most likely to employ a wedding coordinator
Less than a quarter of couples hosting home town wedding events work with a wedding organizer, and a lot of often they're getting a day-of coordinator. Clearly, couples hosting destination weddings see the long list of benefits of hiring a coordinator, whether it be one who is based in their wedding area (our recommendation) or a pro from their home base.
